Notes

A Note is writing created by the user. Draft Notes stay out of retrieval until they are committed, extracted, and admitted into the Book workflow. This boundary keeps unreviewed writing from silently shaping answers.

Note states

• Draft — editable, private, never indexed, never sent to a provider, never eligible to ground an answer.
• Committed — frozen for extraction; the source text and its digest are recorded so generated knowledge can point back to original evidence.
• Extracted — evidence segments have been derived locally and admitted into the admissible working set.

Committing and changing Notes

Only a committed Note is extracted. When you change a committed Note, only the changed blocks are reprocessed; unchanged blocks are not re-extracted or re-billed. Exact duplicate imports create no repeated billable generation. This incremental boundary keeps cost and processing proportional to what actually changed.

What Notes are not

• Notes are not Documents (imported file sources such as PDFs or scans). See the Importer guide.
• Notes are not evidence; evidence is derived from committed Notes during extraction.
• Notes are not published by committing them. Publication is a separate, explicit release action.

Boundaries to keep visible

Draft Notes never enter retrieval. A recommendation may surface a Note for your attention but cannot commit, extract, validate, publish, or delete it. Validation and publication are always explicit human actions.
